The Story of Assure Home Healthcare

Assure Home Healthcare was born from a deeply personal journey—one shaped by love, loss, and an unwavering belief that every senior deserves dignity, respect, and compassionate care.

The story begins in the Philippines, where I lived with my grandmother who was battling Alzheimer’s disease. As a family, we were deeply involved in her care. We made sure she had a thoughtful care plan and caregivers who treated her not just as a patient, but as a person—someone who was loved, valued, and respected every single day. I was there to ensure everything was going smoothly and that her needs were consistently met.

When my grandmother passed away, it was under my watch, during her final trip to the hospital. Even in her last moments, her dignity and respect were intact. While her passing was painful, it affirmed something profound in me: how care is delivered matters just as much as the care itself.

In the spring of 1998, I migrated to the United States to be with my wife, who was working as a nurse in an Alzheimer’s nursing home. As I searched for work, we shared one car, and every morning I drove her to her job. Many times, I walked with her into the facility to help carry her things—her lunch, her personal items—to her station.

During those moments, I witnessed things that deeply troubled me.

I saw patients restrained to their chairs and beds. I saw seniors being taken to showers very early in the morning—half asleep—because families were scheduled to visit at 7:00 a.m. These were not isolated situations. As my wife worked in different nursing homes, I saw the same patterns repeated.

The care I witnessed was very different from the care we gave my grandmother.

That contrast stayed with me. It bothered me deeply. I knew something had to change.

But at the same time, I had doubts.

I asked myself: “Can I really make a difference? I’m starting from scratch. Maybe I will only be able to help a few patients.”

Then one day, I came across “The Star Thrower” story by Loren Eiseley.

After a storm, a man sees a boy throwing stranded starfish back into the ocean to save them. The man tells the boy that there are too many starfish—he cannot possibly make a difference. The boy picks up another starfish, throws it back into the sea, and says:

“I made a difference for that one.”

That moment changed everything for me.

It reminded me that impact is not measured by how many people you reach all at once—but by the difference you make in each life you touch.

That was the turning point.

That was when I knew I had to act.

I made it my life’s purpose to help the most vulnerable people—our seniors—receive better care. Care that protects their dignity. Care that respects who they are. Care that treats them like family.

And that is how Assure Home Healthcare was founded.

From the very beginning, Assure was built on the belief that care is most meaningful when it is delivered with compassion, intention, and respect. I made sure that we bring in people whose passion aligns with our Mission and Vision—individuals who understand that this work is not just about healthcare, but about humanity.

Today, Assure Home Healthcare stands as a reflection of that purpose:
